They are successive standards for power over Ethernet. PoE (802.3af) delivers up to 15.4 W per port, PoE+ (802.3at) up to 30 W and PoE++ (802.3bt) up to 60–90 W. A higher standard means you can power more demanding devices, e.g. PTZ cameras, Wi-Fi 6 access points or displays.
Depending on the port standard: 15.4 W (802.3af), 30 W (802.3at) or up to 90 W (802.3bt). The actual power at the device is slightly lower due to cable losses. The switch's total PoE budget, shared across all active ports, also matters.
IP cameras (including PTZ), Wi-Fi access points, VoIP phones, door intercoms, IoT sensors, information displays and electronic locks — all over a single network cable, with no extra power supplies or sockets.
Add up the demand of all PoE devices and leave headroom for the future. For example, 24 cameras at ~12 W is ~290 W — with a margin, choose a switch with a 370 W budget or higher. We're happy to help calculate the budget for your installation.
Yes — PoE works over up to 100 m of twisted pair (data and power together). For greater distances you use PoE extenders or switch to a fibre uplink between switches. We'll advise the best solution for large sites.
