FAQ — DCN data center switches

How do data center switches differ from regular ones?

DC switches offer higher port density (25G/100G), a low-latency non-blocking architecture, redundant power and front-to-back cooling, and HA mechanisms (VSF). Regular office switches cannot handle the east–west traffic generated by virtualisation and storage.

What is Leaf–Spine architecture?

A two-tier topology in which every Leaf switch (server access) connects to every Spine (core). It provides predictable, low latency and simple scalability — expansion means adding more devices, without redesigning the network.

What are stacking and MLAG?

Stacking combines several physical switches into one logical device managed from a single point. MLAG lets you connect a server or switch to two devices at once — a failure of one node does not interrupt the network. Together with modular, redundant Hot-Swap power they eliminate a single point of failure.

Which model should I choose for 25G servers?

To connect 25G servers we recommend the CS6580-48S6CQ-HI (48× 25G SFP28 + 6× 100G uplink). As a 100G core we would pick the CS6580-32CQ-HI.

Do they support redundant power and cooling?

Yes — the CS6580/CS6510 series support redundant, hot-swap power supplies and fans with front-to-back airflow, aligned with hot/cold aisle containment in the rack.
